SECTION 105(8)(B) OF THE COMPREHENSIVE
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE COMPENSATION AND LIABILITY ACT (CERCLA)
REQUIRES THE STATES TO LIST THEIR PRIORITIES AMONG KNOWN OR
THREATENED RELEASES OF HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES. THE STATES MUST APPLY
CRITERIA SPECIFIED IN THE NATIONAL CONTINGENCY PLAN. EPA WILL USE
THE STATES' PRIORITY LISTS TO SET NATIONAL PRIORITIES FOR REMEDIAL
ACTIONS.
