Abstract: THESE DATA OBTAIN INFORMATION NEEDED TO CALCULATE EFFECTIVE ANNUAL RATES PAID ON CEILING-FREE INSTRUMENTS. SUCH DATA ARE USED BY THE FEDERAL RESERVE TO OBSERVE COMPETITIVE DEVELOPMENTS BETWEEN BANKS AND THRIFT INSTITUTIONS AND TO HELP MONITOR THE EARNINGS POSITION OF DEPOSITORY INSITUTIONS. THESE DATA PROVIDE THE FEDERAL RESERVE BOARD & THE DEPOSITORY INSTITUTIONS DEREG. COMM. (DIDC) WITH A BASIS FOR MONITORING THE IMPACT OF THE GRADUAL REMOVAL OF INTEREST RATE CEILINGS
