Abstract: FEDERAL LAW AND STANDARDS REQUIRE STATES TO HAVE ADEQUATE PROGRAMS TO PREVENT, DETECT AND RECOVER OVERPAYMENTS THAT RESULT FROM WILLFUL MISREPRESENTATION AND OTHER REASONS. THIS REPORT PROVIDES DATA ON THE LEVELS OF FRAUD AND NONFRAUD OVERPAYMENT ACTIVITY AS WELL AS RECOVERIES OF OVERPAYMENTS AND PRESECUTIONS FOR FRAUD. DATA ARE USED TO ANALYZE PROGRAM TRENDS, FOR BUDGET PREPARATION AND FOR ADMINISTRATI OF STATE BENEFIT PAYMENT CONTROL PROGRAMS.
