THE SERVICE IS CURRENTLY STUDYING THE
USE OF OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION AND MAGNETIC TAPE AS
SUBSTITUTE METHODS FOR ENTERING TAX RETURN DATA INTO IRS COMPUTERS.
THE GOVERNMENT COULD SAVE SIGNIFICANT RESOURCES IF OUR PRESENT DATA
ENTRY OPERATION COULD BE ENHANCED BY MOR DIRECT ENTRY. THE RESULTS
OF THE QUESTIONNAIRE WILL HELP IRS BETTER UNDERSTAND THE TECHNOLOGY
USED BY RETURN PREPARERS AND ITS APPLICATION TO IRS
PROCESSING.
