Abstract: 26 USC 3302 ALLOWS EMPLOYERS A CREDIT AGAINST THEIR UNEMPLOYMENT TAX FOR CONTRIBUTIONS THEY PAID INTO A STATE UNEMPLOYMENT FUND. INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE ASKS EACH STATE FOR CERTIFICATION OF PAYMENTS. WHEN THERE IS A DISCREPANCY BETWEEN EMPLOYER INFORMATION AND STATE INFORMATION, THE SERVICE CORRESPONDS WITH THE EMPLOYER (USING NOTICE 167) PROPOSING A TAX CHANGE, & ASKING THE EMPLOYER TO CONTACT THE STAT FOR PROOF OF CREDIT CLAIMED AGAINST THE UNEMPLOYMENT TAX (USING 167A).
