This form is
approved subject to the following conditions: (1) The definition of
"fatal injury" must be deleted from the form. (2) The definition of
"motor vehicle fatality" must be deleted and replaced by: "This
form should only be used to indicate motor vehicle traffic
fatalities. A motor vehicle traffic fatality is an injury caused by
an accident involving a motor vehicle in transport on a trafficway
which resulted in the death of the injured person within 30 days of
the accident." (3) This form is approved through 12/31/83 only. If
it is resubmitted for OMB approval, the justification statement
must be revised to provide a better explanation of why NHTSA cannot
rely on the monthly fatality report issued by the National Safety
Council, which is generally available 20 days after NHTSA's monthly
fatality report. (4) If NHTSA decides to resubmit its monthly
fatality report for OMB approval, the justification statement must
also discuss the agency's efforts to reduce duplication by
including in the monthly report any additional information required
by the National Safety Council, thereby eliminating the need for
the Safety Council's monthly report.
