HUD IS IMPLEMENTING A NEW PROGRAM OF
DIRECT ENDORSEMENT WHICH WILL ENABLE MORTGAGE LENDERS TO UNDERWRITE
AND CLOSE FHA MORTGAGES WITHOUT PRIOR HUD REVIEW. PRESENTLY,
MORTGAGE LENDERS MUST SEND THE APPLICATI PACKAGE TO HUD TWO TIMES
FOR REVIEW AND APPROVAL PRIOR TO LOAN CLOSING AND ONE TIME FOR
REVIEW AND ENDORSEMENT AFTER CLOSING. THIS PROGRAM ELIMINATES THE
NEED FOR THE TWO REVIEWS AND ENABLES HUD TO RELY ON THE MORTGAGEE
FOR UNDERWRITING DECISIONS.
