is approved with the folowing revisions: 1) incorporation of the
changes outlined in W. Edward Bacon's Memorandum of May 20, 1983,
2) Inclusion in the Facility Survey of a data element indicating
whether a facility is physically part of a hospital or whether it
is freestanding, and 3) Addition to the Resident Survey of a data
element capable of capturing the hospital discharge diagnoses in
order to compute the hospital discharge DRG at some future
date.

THE NNHS SYSTEM PROVIDES NATIONAL
BASELINE AND TREND DATA ON NURSING HOMES, THE COSTS INCURRED BY THE
FACILITY IN PROVIDING CARE, THEIR RESIDENTS, AND STAFF. THE 1984
NNHS IS DESIGNED TO SATISFY THE DATA NEEDS OF THOSE WHO ESTABLISH
STANDARDS FOR, PLAN, PROVIDE, AND ASSESS LONG-TERM CARE
SERVICES.
