Abstract: AT THE OPTION OF A STATE, A STATE MAY RECOMMEND ALTERNATIVE (LESS STRINGENT) EFFLUENT REQUIREMENTS FOR TRICKLING FILTERS AND PONDS. USI DATA ALREADY AVAILABEL, STATES WOULD ANALYZE THE PERFORMANCE CAPABILITIES OF FILTERS AND PONDS WITHIN A STATE OR APPROPRIATE CONTIGUOUS GEOGRAPHICAL AREA SUBMIT THAT ANALYSIS TO EPA, TOGETHER WIT RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVE REQUIREMENTS. EPA WILL APPROVE THE RECOMMENDA TIONS, BASED ON ADHERENCE OF THE SUPPORTING ANALYSIS TO REG. CRITERIA.
