Abstract: FORM 6251 IS USED BY INDIVIDUALS, ESTATES, AND TRUSTS HAVING CERTAIN T PREFERENCE ITEMS OR CERTAIN NONBUSINESS CREDITS, WHO MAY BE LIABLE FOR THE ALTERNATIVE MINIMUM TAX. THE FORM PROVIDES A COMPUTATION OF THE ALTERNATIVE MINIMUM TAX WHICH IS TO BE ADDED TO TAX LIABILITY. THE INFORMATION IS NEEDED TO SEE WHETHER TAXPAYERS ARE COMPLYING WITH THE LAW.
