Abstract: ADULTS FROM THE FIRST NATIONAL HEALTH AND NUTRITION EXAMINATION SURVEY (NHANES I) WERE TRACED AND INTERVIEWED AFTER A 10-YEAR INTERVAL IN THE NHANES I EPIDEMIOLOGIC FOLLOWUP STUDY TO DETERMINE THE IMPACT OF RISK FACTORS FROM THE EXTENSIVE EXAMINATION ON RATES OF DISEASE AND ITS IMPACT ON UTILIZATION OF NURSING HOME AND HOSPITAL CARE. THE SURVIVIN COHORT WILL BE RECONTACTED BY TELEPHONE IN 1985 AND 1986. HOSPITAL RECORDS AND DEATH CERTIFICATES WILL BE COLLECTED.
