Abstract: THIS REPORT IS NEEDED TO DOCUMENT AS ACCURATELY AS POSSIBLE THE NUMBER OF NEONATAL HERPES CASES OCCURING ANNUALLY IN THE U.S. AND TO IDENTIFY RISK FACTORS FOR THIS INFECTION IN INFANTS AND PARENTS. INFORMATION WILL ASSIST STATE AND LOCAL HEALTH PROVIDERS TO ORGANIZE APPROPRIATE SCREENING AND COUNSELING PROGRAMS FOR MOTHERS AS RISK.
