Abstract: THE PURPOSE OF THE BEREAVEMENT SUBSTUDY IS TO DETERMINE (1) HOW THE DEATH OF ONE SPOUSE AFFECTS THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF THE SURVIVING SPOUSE AND (2) HOW SOCIAL SUPPORT AND THE SURVIVOR'S MODE OF ADAPTATION MODIFY HEALTH OUTCOMES RELATED TO BEREAVEMENT. PARTICIPANT IN THE IOWA 65+ RURAL HEALTH STUDY WILL BE ELIGIBLE.
