Abstract: THE RENTAL PRPOPERTY TEST IS A FOLLOW-UP SURVEY TO THE 1984 AMERICAN HOUSING SURVEY-METROPOLITAN SAMPLE IN THREE METROPOLITAN AREAS. IT COLLECTS CURRENT INFORMATION ON OWNERS' EXPENSES FOR RENTAL UNITS AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF RENTAL PROPERTIES. FEDERAL AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT CAN USE THE DATA TO EVALUATE THE ADEQUACY OF THE SUPPLY OF RENTAL HOUSING, RENTAL SUBSIDY PROGRAMS AND UTILITY COSTS.
