Abstract: CHIEF ENGINEERS OF SHIPS MAKE THE REQ. ENTRY IN THE OIL RECORD BOOK WHEN OPERATIONS ARE PERFORMED AS PRESCRIBED BY MARPOL 73/78. THIS INFO WILL BE UTILIZED BY COAST GUARD PERSONNEL TO VERIFY THAT DISCHARGES OF OIL AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS ARE DONE IN COMPLIANCE WITH MARPOL 73/78 AND THE ACT TO PREVENT POLLUTION FROM SHIPS. THIS IS NECESSARY FOR THE COAST GUARD TO MEET ITS STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS.
