Abstract: RESEARCH CONDUCTED IN THE PAST REGARDING THE USE OF GUARDING DOGS TO PROTECT SHEEP FROM PREDATORS HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE RELATIVELY SUCCESSFU USDA RESEARCHERS HAVE BEEN LED TO BELIEVE THAT SUCH A HIGH RATE OF SUCCESS HAS NOT BEEN REALIZED BY INDIVIDUAL SHEEP PRODUCERS WHO HAVE ATTEMPTED TO USE A GUARD DOG WITHIN THEIR OWN OPERATION. THE INFORMATION GATHERED WILL BE OF SIGNIFICANT VALUE TO THE SHEEP INDUSTRY.
