Abstract: BERC-279-F REVISES THE WAY HOSPITALS ARE PAID FOR INDIRECT MEDICAL EDUCATION COSTS UNDER PPS. THE ACCOMMODATE HOSPITALS WHICH HAVE HISTORICALLY INCURRED THE HIGHER INDIRECT COSTS OF MEDICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS, WHILE NO ACTUALLY EMPLOYING INTERNS AND RESIDENTS, REIMBURSEMENT WILL NOW BE MADE TO THOSE HOSPITALS BASED ON WHERE THE INTERN/RESIDENT PROVIDED SERVICES AND THE ACTUAL HOURS WORKED.
