THIS STUDY, TO BEGIN JULY 1983 WILL
IDENTIFY TECHNICAL FAILURES IN RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
COMPONENTS CAUSING AN ESTIMATED 60,000 FIRES, 5700 INJURIES AND 500
DEATHS ANNUALLY. THE RESULTS WILL BE USED TO DIRECT ENGINEERING
RESEARCH, SUPPORT THE NEED FOR DESIGN CHANGES AN CHANGES TO
VOLUNTARY STANDARDS, AND EDUCATE CONSUMERS.
