RELEVANT STATUTORY AUTHORITY, REVISES 21 CFR 105.66(A) AS PART OF
THE REVISIONS TO BE MADE IN THE NUTRITIONAL LABELING RULES (21 CFR
101.9) PER OMB'S DIRECTION OF OCTOBER 21, 1985.

DIET RESEARCH. OBESITY IS A MAJOR
HEALTH PROBLEM IN THE UNITED STATES THESE REGULATIONS PROVIDE FOR
LABELING TO ENABLE THOSE MILLIONS OF INDIVIDUALS WHO NEED TO
CONTROL THEIR WEITHT TO IDENTIFY AND EVALUA PARTICULAR FOODS WHICH
MAY HELP THEM ATTAIN AND MAINTAIN THEIR DESIRED WEIGHT WITHIN THE
LIMITS OF A BALANCED AND NUTRITIOUS DIET PROGRAM.

the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
