Abstract: UNDER THE UMTA SAFETY INFORMATION REPORTING AND ANALYSIS SYSTEM (SIRAS), SAFETY INFORMATION ON ACCIDENTS/INCIDENTS AND PASSENGER CASUALTIES WHICH OCCUR IN RAPID TRANSIT OPERATIONS ARE VOLUNTARILY REPORTED. THE INFORMATION IS ANALYZED TO DETERMINE LEVELS OF SAFETY, TO IDENTIFY PRIORITIES FOR SAFETY TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND TO ASSESS COUNTERMEASURE EFFECTIVENESS.
