Abstract: THE NEW CPI HOUSING SURVEY WILL COLLECT DATA FROM A NEWLY-SELECTED SAMPLE OF 40,000 RENTERS INTERVIEWED SEMIANNUALLY AND 20,000 OWNER OCCUPANTS INTERVIEWED ANNUALLY. THE NEW SAMPLE DESIGN, SURVEY PROCEDURES AND ESTIMATION METHODS WILL IMPROVE THE CPI RENT AND OWNERS EQUIVALENT RENT INDEXES FOR THE 1987 CPI REVISION.
