Abstract: THE DATA COLLECTED IN THIS SURVEY PARTLY ENBALE THE NSF TO FULFILL THE LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS WHICH OBLIGATES THE AGENCY TO MAINTAIN A REGISTER AND OTHERWISE ACT AS A CENTRAL CLEARINGHOUSE FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL POPULATION IN THE U.S. THE INFORMATION PROVIDED ALLOWS FOR POLICY AND PLANNING ACTIVITIES BY GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, PRIVATE INDUSTRIES AND ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS.
