THIS COLLECTION OF INFORMATION THROUGH 8/87, BY WHICH TIME THE
AGENCY PLANS TO PUBLISH A FINAL RULE REVISING ITS EXISTING STANDARD
ON RESPIRATORY PROTECTION, WHICH IS REFERENCED IN THIS REGULATION.
IN THE RULEMAKING ON RESPIRATORY PROTECTION, THE AGENCY SHALL
COMPETELY JUSTIFY THE NEED FOR AND PRACTICAL UTILITY OF THE
REQUIREMENT TO CONDUCT MONTHLY INSPECTIONS OF EMERGENCY-USE
RESPIRATORS, OR SHALL CONVERT THIS RECORDKEEPING REQUIREMENT TO A
CERTIFICATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH 5CFR1320.7(K)(1).

THE PURPOSE OF THIS STANDARD AND ITS
INFORMATION COLLECTION REQUIREMENTS IS TO PROVIDE PROTECTION FOR
EMPLOYEES AGAINST THE HEALTH EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH OCCUPATIONAL
EXPOSURE TO COKE OVEN EMISSIONS. EMPLOYERS MUST MONITOR EMPLOYEE
EXPOSURE, KEEP EMPLOYEE EXPOSURES WITHIN PERMISSIBLE LIMITS AND
PROVIDE EMPLOYEES WITH MEDICAL EXAMS

1320.8(b)(3).
