TO ADEQUATELY EXAMINE HOW TO ESTIMATE THE BURDEN HOURS ASSOCIATED
WITH THESE INFORMATION REQUESTS. OSM HAS AGREED TO REVIEW THE
VARIOUS STATUTORY AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS THAT CONTAIN THIS
PAPERWORK TO ASSESS WHAT ACTIONS WOULD BE REQUIRED TO REDUCE THE
BURDE THIS REVIEW MAY TAKE LONGER THAN 6 MONTHS, HOWEVER, WE STILL
EXPECT A NEW REQUEST THAT AT A MINIMUM CLEARLY DISCUSSES HOW OSM

SECTION 516 OF P.L. 95-87 PROVIDES
THAT PERMITTERS CONDUCTING SURFACE COAL MINING OPERATIONS WIT
UNDERGROUND MINE ACTIVITIES SHALL MEET APPLICABLE PERFORMANCE
STANDARD OF THE ACT. THIS INFORMATION IS USED BY THE REGULATORY
AUTHORITY IN MONITORING AND INSPECTING UNDERGROUND MINING
ACTIVITIES TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE CONDUCTED IN A MANNER WHICH
PRESERVES AND ENHANCE ENVIRONMENTAL AND OTHER VALUES OF THE
ACT.
