THE DRIVER VEHICLE INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE RECORDS REQUIRED OF MOTOR CARRIERS OPERATING IN INTERSTATE OR FOREIGN COMMERCE, AND THEIR DRIVERS, BY 49 CFR 396 ARE USED TO IDENTIFY DEFECTS LIKELY TO AFFECT SAFETY OF OPERATION OF TRUCKS AND BUSES EMPLOYED BY THOSE CARRIERS AND TO RECORD INSPECITON, REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES.
