THE ASBESTOS HAZARD EMERGENCY RESPONSE
ACT (AHERA) REQUIRES EPA TO ISSUE RULES WHICH PROVIDE A FRAMEWORK
FOR SCHOOLS TO ADDRESS ASBESTOS PROBLEMS. INFORMATION COLLECTED
UNDER AHERA WILL SUPPORT EPA'S RULEMAKING EFFORTS AND ENABLE LOCAL
EDUCATION AGENCIES TO INSPECT SCHOOL BUILDINGS FOR FRIABLE AND
NON-FRIABLE ASBESTOS, IMPLEMENT APPROPRIATE RESPONSE ACTIONS TO
REDUCE OR ELIMINATE
