The "Business
Confidential Data Request" is approved through November 1988.
During OMB's review of this package, a commenter questioned DOL's
burden estimate of 6.2 hours per response. The commenter suggested
that the burden estimate should be 30 hours per response. It is
OMB's understanding that DOL arrived at its estimate by deriving an
average response time from a sample of response times received from
the businesses completing the form. OMB requests, however, that
over the next year the Department reassess its burden estimate for
this form. Any request for an extension of approval under the
Paperwork Reduction Act should be accompanied by a detailed
justification of the burden estimate, including the methodology
used to derive the estimate. The justification and burden hour
accounting for DOL's requested program change decrease (item 14 of
the supporting statement) is unclear. OMB requests that the
Department submit an inventory correction worksheet requesting the
program change decrease with a full justification for the decrease
and a clear accounting of the decrease in the burden estimate for
this data collection.
