Abstract: THE REGULATIONS ALLOWS TAXPAYERS TO MAKE CERTAIN ELECTIONS WHICH AFFEC THE DETERMINATION OF QUALIFIED RESIDENCE INTEREST. THE AFFECTED PUBLIC ARE HOMEOWNERS WITH DEBT IN EXCESS OF BASIS WHO ELECT TO TREAT SUCH DEBT AS NOT SECURED BY THEIR RESIDENCE, WHO HAVE ONE DEBT SECURED BY TWO RESIDENCES OR WHO HAVE DEBT SECURED BY A RESIDENTIAL LOT OR CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS.
