Terms of Clearance: WITHIN THREE MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF CLEARANCE THE CENSUS BUREAU WILL PROVIDE OMB WITH A PLAN FOR IMPROVING THE SHIPPERS EXPORT DECLARATION FORMS. THE PLAN WILL INCLUDE 1) EXPLORATION OF SAMPLING PROCEDURES SO THAT EACH INDIVIDUAL SHIPMENT VALUED OVER $1500 DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REPORTED, 2) CONSIDERATION OF ASKING RESPONDENTS TO REPORT MONTHLY DATA ON A QUARTERLY BASIS, 3) CONSIDERATION OF RAISING THE VALUE LIMIT FOR THE EXEMPTION FOR SED FILING FROM $1500 TO $2000 OR $2500 TO FURTHER REDUCE THE REPORTING BURDEN ON THE PUBLIC, 4) INSTITUTION OF PROCEDURES TO ALLOW FOR ELECTRONIC REPORTING BY RESPONDENTS, AND 5) EXAMINATION OF THE PRACTICAL UTILITY OF EACH DATA ELEMENT TO REDUCE THE PAPERWORK BURDEN ON THE PUBLIC.

Abstract: THE BUREAU OF THE CENSUS AUTHORIZES EXPORTERS MAKING NUMEROUS SHIPMENTS OF ESSENTIALLY THE SAME COMMODITIES TO FILE FORM 7525-M WHEN SUCH USE WOULD REDUCE SUBSTANTILLY THE NUMBER OF INDIVIDUAL SHIPPER'S EXPORT DECLARATIONS (SEDS) FILED. THESE SEDS PROVIDE DATA FROM WHICH CENSUS COMPILES THE OFFICIAL U.S. EXPORT STATISTICS.
