THE 1989 SPECIAL SURVEY IS A TEST
SURVEY OF THE REVISED FORMAT OF RESPONSES TO THE RACE QUESTION,
WHICH WILL BE ASKED OF THE ENTIRE U.S. POPULATION IN THE 1990
CENSUS. A SAMPLE OF 40,000 HOUSEHOLDS WILL BE DRAWN FROM FIVE
METROPOLITAN AREAS (PHILADELPHIA, DETROIT, CHICAGO, NEW YORK AND
SAN DIEGO) AND TWO RURAL SITES (WEST VIRGINIA AND MISSISSIPPI). THE
SURVEY WILL BE USED TO IMPLEMENT REFINED

the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
