Terms of Clearance: This information collection is approved in concept only for six months. This concept clearance does not extend to the survey instruments because the agency has advised OMB that they are still being revised. When this information collection request is resubmitte for OMB review, the agency should address the following concerns: 1)provide an explanation of the basis for selection of sample, 2)reevaluate the expected rate of attrition of sample cases at the 1-year follow-up to ensure that the survey outcome will not be adversely affected, 3)update the package to include the outcome of the pretest, 4)provide assurances of the information collection's practica utility and the absence of unnecessary duplication by explaining how this study fits into the agency's other information collections developed or under-development to meet the reporting requirements in P.L. 100-294, and 5) provide the final versions of the survey instruments which reflect any and all modifications to-date, including those made in response to the pretest and/or to adapt questions for telephone administration.

Abstract: INTERVIEWS WITH CASE WORKERS AT CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICE AGENCIES WILL ASSESS THE INDICDENCE OF SUBSTANTIATED MALTREATMENT OF CHILDREN WHO AR HANDICAPPED AND CHILDREN FROM SUBSTANCE ABUSING FAMILIES. DATA WILL ALSO BE GATHERED ON SERVICES PROVIDED TO THESE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. FINDINGS WILL BE REPORTED TO CONGRESS, AS MANDATED.
