This information collection is approved for use until 2/28/91. The FDA will submit to OMB for approval any changes to the data collection procedures and questionnaires that may be made based on the results of the pilot test. These changes must be submitted prior to beginning the main survey. In addition, the agency should provide a written report to OMB on the results of the pilot study prior to beginning the main survey. FDA also agrees to survey consumer acceptance of a 1 ounce standard serving size during its second round of focus group discussions scheduled between September and December 1990.

A SAMPLE OF HOUSEHOLD FOOD SHOPPERS WILL BE INTERVIEWED IN AN EXPERIMENTAL SETTING TO DETERMINE ABILITY TO IDENTIFY NUTRIENT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FOODS UNDER ALTERNATIVE NUTRITION LABEL FORMATS. THE DATA WILL PROVIDE INPUT TO PROPOSED RULEMAKING TO ESTABLISH A NEW STANDARDIZED FORMAT.
