Abstract: THE COAST GUARD RECREATIONAL BOATING PRODUCT ASSURANCE BRANCH SEEKS APPROVAL FOR AN INFORMATION REQUEST TO THE 50 STATES, THREE U.S. TERRITORIES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA TO DETERMINE WHETHER PURCHASER INFORMATION IS RETRIEVABLE FROM VESSEL REGISTRATION FILES. THE INFORMATION MIGHT BE USED BY BOAT MANUFACTURERS CONDUCTING RECALLS FOR DEFECTS AND FOR FAILURES TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL SAFETY STANDARDS.
