Terms of Clearance: This pilot study is approved for use through 7/92 under the condition that no later than 12/91 ADAMHA staff briefs OMB regarding its major research objectives in substance abuse prevention and treatment and how existing and future efforts will support such objectives. OMB is concerned that different ADAMHA components are pursuing individual projects that alone do not enable the Federal government to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and prevention programs and State administration. For example, this particular effort, like existing projects, is exploratory and its results will be inconclusive. The next submission for OMB approval must demonstrate that this effort 1) achieves different objectives and/or is designed to test different hypotheses than currently approved efforts; 2) will produce results that can be meaningfully linked with other sources; and 3) is crucial to meeting ADAMHA's research objectives.

Abstract: THIS PILOT STUDY WILL COLLECT DATA FROM 32 DRUG AND ALCOHOL TREATMENT UNITS AND 224 CLIENTS RECENTLY ADMITTED FOR TREATMENT. PURPOSE OF DAT COLLECTION IS TO DESCRIBE THE NATIONAL DRUG AND ALCOHOL ADDICTION TREATMENT SYSTEM. RESULTS FROM THIS PILOT STUDY WILL BE USED FOR OUR NATIONAL TREATMENT STUDY OF 400 FACILITIES AND 3,000 CLIENTS.
