Terms of Clearance: As agreed to in a discussion between Doris Benz of OPM and Joe Lackey of OMB, OPM will change its burden disclosure notice on the SF171 to indicate an overall extimated reporting burden averaging 90 minutes per response. As also agreed, it is appropriate for OPM to retain the 20-360 minute range. No change will be made to the estimate for the SF171A. Accounting change for this new estimate is reflected in this notice.

Abstract: THE SF 171 AND SF 171-A ARE THE BASIC FORMS TO APPLY FOR FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT. THEY COLLECT DETAILED INFORMATION NEEDED TO DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY, INFLUENCE SELECTION DECISIONS, AND PROVIDE PERSONAL HISTORY IN ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL PERSONNEL POLICIES AND PRACTICES.
