Terms of Clearance: Approved as amended by ED's memoranda to OMB of 9/9/92, 9/22/92, and 9/25/92. Approval through July 1994 will allow ED to continue the Tape Dump without change to the data elements until the implementation of the National Student Loan Data System, which will replace this collection. In addition, ED has assured that when requesting institutions to verify errors in tape dump information, a general rule of 1% as the error threshold will be followed (below this level, verification would not be necessary except at ED's discretion in unusu circumstances).

Abstract: STATE AND PRIVATE, NONPROFIT GUARANTEE AGENCIES PROVIDE ED, VIA MAGNET TAPE, BORROWER-SPECIFIC DATA ON THE GSL AND PLUS PROGRAMS. THESE DATA ARE USED TO DESCRIBE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF BORROWERS, TO ASSESS THE IMPACT OF VARIOUS LEGISLATIVE, REGULATORY, AND BUDGETARY PROPOSALS, AN TO MONITOR BORROWER FRAUD AND ABUSE.
