This information collection is approved for use through June 30, 1994. The approval is contingent on the Department ensuring that the tables and instructions are consistent with the final CHAS regulation published on September 1, 1992. For example, States are not required to present needs and market inventory data beyond that required by HUD Some other changes to be consistent with the final rules: 1) the assessment of environmental hazards is optional for both States and localities; 2) for homeless individuals and families with children, the State must provide a brief inventory of facilities and services; and 3) the State must describe, to the extent information is available, the facilities and services that assist non-homeless persons with special needs. In its next submission, HUD will include a summary of comments receive on the forms and instructions and any changes based on those comments. In addition, HUD will continue to re-evaluate the burden and costs associated with the development of the CHAS based on two additional years of experience.
