Abstract: SHIPS ARE REQUIRED TO MAKE ENTRIES IN THE OIL RECORD BOOKS AND GARBAGE RECORD BOOKS WHEN OPERATIONS ARE PERFORMED AS PRESCRIBED BY MARPOL 73/78. THIS INFORMATION WILL BE USED BY COAST GUARD PERSONNEL TO VERIFY THAT DISCHARGES OF OIL AND GARBAGE ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE ACT TO PREVENT POLLUTION FROM SHIPS.
