Abstract: ORGANIZERS OF CERTAIN TAX SHELTERS ARE REQUIRED TO REGISTER THEM WITH THE IRS USING FORM 8264. (OTHER PERSONS MAY HAVE TO REGISTER THE TAX SHELTER IF THE ORGANIZER DOES NOT.) WE USE THE INFORMATION TO GIVE TH TAX SHELTER A REGISTRATION NUMBER. SELLERS OF INTERESTS IN THE TAX SHELTER FURNISH THE NUMBER TO INVESTORS WHO REPORT THE NUMBER ON THEIR TAX RETURNS.
