Approved through
May 1993 with the following conditions: 1) question 3 will be
changed to, "is your appraisal business primarily commercial o
primarily residential?" and the answer categories will be changed
to, "primarily commercial, primarily residential, evenly divided,"
2) in questions 12a and 12b the phrase, "in your office," will be
changed to "associated with your business," and 3) the cover letter
transmitted to OMB 4/23 will be provided to each respondent.
Expedited clearance of this collection was requested in order to
answe a congressional inquiry. OMB notes that three bootleg (not
OMB approved) collections related to Section 530 of the the IRC
have been brought to our attention by the public during the last
year. It appea that IRS field offices have a recurring need to
obtain similar information in specific tax cases. While IRS is now
in compliance with the PRA by submitting this survey for review,
there remain fundamental issues regarding Sec. 530 information
collections. IRS must assess its need for data useful to its
handling of Sec. 530 cases. This should include consideration of
the extent to which a generic clearance of well developed survey
instruments would be appropriate. OMB is willing to work with the
Department and IRS to develop such instruments and improve the
timeliness of their submissio to OMB for review.
