Abstract: THE RULE REQUIRES U.S. SHIPS (VESSELS IN COMMERCIAL SERVICE OVER 40 FE AND MANNED FIXED AND FLOATING PLATFORMS) TO RECORD THE AMOUNT OF GARBAGE THEY DISCHARGE TO SHORE AND INTO THE SEA IN ACCORDANCE WITH ANNEX V OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR THE PREVENTION OF POLLUTIO FROM SHIPS (MARPOL). RECORDS WILL BE USED TO VERIFY COMPLIANCE AND MAINTAIN A STATISTICAL RECORD OF GARBAGE BEING DISCHARGED.
