Abstract: THE USEPA RELIES ON ANALYTICAL DATA FROM A VARIETY OF LABS FOR MANY DECISIONS REGARDING WATER QUALITY. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE AGENCY HAVE AN OBJECTIVE DEMONSTRATION THAT THE CONTRIBUTING LABS ARE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING VALID DATA. THE LABORATORY PE PROGRAM FULFILLS THIS NEED FOR DRINKING WATER, MAJOR POINT SOURCE DISCHARGE, AND AMBIENT WATER QUALITY ANALYSIS.
