as a preliminary feasibility study through 04/97 under the
following conditions: 1) ONDCP amends the Life History Instrument
to include an income question that would be used to evaluate the
socioeconomic status of respondents. The question could be general
(e.g., three ranges such as $15,000 /yr. or less; $15,000 - $50,000
+/yr.) as long as the ranges selected allow the results of this
effort to be compared to the NHSDA (meaning NHSDA's ranges should
be additive to this effort's more general ranges.) To minimize
nonresponse problems, this question could be placed at the end of
the LHI or at another appropriate place in contact with the
respondent; 2) no later than 2/17/95, ONDCP or its contractor
amends the sample shell tables on page 31 of the Supporting
Statement to include cross tabs with more detailed combinations of
demographic/ socioeconomic characteristics. Confidence intervals
should be applied to each of these demographic cells. As present in
Table 2, OMB still has reservations with aggregating groups with
different probabilities, particularly if the variance is large
