Terms of Clearance: Approved as amended by NSF's 5/24/95 memorandum to OMB. In addition, NSF has agreed to meet the following conditions: -- Approval does not yet extend to the case study component of the CCD evaluation. NSF will send information about the case study design including how sites are selected and how many, the kinds of information that will be collected through case studies, and how this information will be integrated with the survey data. Action on the case study component will follow review of this additional information, which may be submitted as an addendum to this survey clearance, and resolution of any outstanding issues consistent with the PRA approval criteria. -- Responses to PI survey Q. 8 will be assessed as a test to determine the extent that PI's know about dissemination of their findings. The data will not be reported as part of the results of this survey. NSF will revise Q. 8 to make clear that an estimate of how many non-funded schools house faculty users, based on the PI's experience, is what is requested. -- NSF will expand PI Q. 11 to add an optional question that asks about how PIs may have overcome the listed barriers or constraints. -- NSF will not infer any causation between project participation and tenure status as a result of the answers to PI Qs. 27-28. The information will be used to assess the degree of correlation, which if found high will be subject to further analysis before conclusions are drawn about causation. -- NSF will delete the word "physical" in PI Qs. 31-32 (and elsewhere as appropriate) to ask about all students with disabilities. -- NSF will add an optional question to the PI survey that mirrors unsuccessful applicant survey Q. 7 about suggestions for improvements in the grant process.
