Abstract: IN THE NORTHERN REGION, THERE ARE 12 NATIONAL FORESTS ENCOMPASSING THREE STATES: MONTANA, NORTHERN IDAHO, AND NORTH DAKOTA. IN AN EFFORT TO BETTER SERVE THE BROAD SPECTRUM OF PEOPLE AND THEIR DIVERSE INTEREST, IT IS NECESSARY TO GAIN INFORMATION ON USE PATTERNS ON THE NATIONAL FORESTS, AS WELL AS THEIR PERCEPTION OF THE ROLE OF THE FOREST SERVICE AND HOW WELL IT MEETS THAT ROLE.
