Abstract: The timeliness of the reporting of nationally notifiable diseases for publication in the MMWR provides information which CDC and State epidemiologists use to detect and more effectively interrupt outbreaks. Also, reporting provides the timely information needed to measure and demonstrate the impact of changed immunization laws or a new therapeutic therapy. The data are widely used by public health professionals concerned with the trends of diseases in the U.S.
