Proposed 'Third
Party Notification Requirements' contained in Sections
68.112(b)(1)(G) 'Designation of Emergency Telephones' and 68.224(a)
'Equipment Packaging' are approved. The requirement contained in
Section 68.300(b)(3) is NOT approved. The FCC has permission to
require manufacturers or importers to label equipment with
appropriate and reasonable language that would inform a user that
the phone is hearing aid compatible and\or is equiped with volume
controls. Labeling equipment with dates or serial numbers is
meaningless to installers or users and will not be used. The FCC
burden estimates for labeling equipment are included in this
collection -- but will be updated to reflect any additional burden
that importers and manufacturers may incur by having to meet this
revised requirement.

In the NPRM issued in CC Docket No.
87-124, the Commission solicits, among other things, comments to
require hearing aid compatible telephones in: 1) the non-common

confined settings; and 3) the guest rooms of hotels and motels.
Comment is also sought on a proposal that all new and replacement
telephones be equipped with volume control. The Commission proposes
to modify its rules governing telephone equipment labelling
requirements.
