Abstract: This is a census of law enforcement agencies that provides statistics on the number of sworn officers and nonsworn employees for State and local police departments, sheriff's departments, and special police agencies. This data will provide a means of assessing law enforcement employment trends nationwide when compared to previous data collections administered in 1986 and 1992.
