This survey enables the Secretary of
the Interior to meet the responsibilities mandated by the National
Materials and Minerals and Minerals Policy Research and Development
Act of 1980 (P.L. 96-479) and to inform the Congress of
developments in the minerals industries including potential crises
therein. The information is published in U.S. Geological Survey
publications for use by private organizations and other Government
agencies.
