Specifically, the results of this California case study will not be used to make generalizations about the U.S. population. Abstract: The study will determine the risk of SIDS associated with sleeping in the prone or side positions relative to supine position; identify any factors that exacerbate the association of sleeping position with the risk of SIDS; and establish baseline information on the prevalence of each sleeping position. Respondents are 450 mothers of infants who died of SIDS and 900 matched controls.
